Button-Hole Sewing Machine
This invention relates to those sewing machines which are provided with attachments for stitching an extra cord around a button hole, said cord being applied to the rear side of the latter, in order that the garment may present the same finished appearance both in front and rear and our improvement consists in coupling the leader of this extra cord to the machine in such a manner as to enable the free end of said leader to be swung upwardly and rearwardly for the purpose of affording the most convenient access to the needle and to the work on the cloth-plate, as hereinafter in ore fully described and pointed out in the claims. Another feature of our invention consists in providing the leader-sheath with a lug, against which latter bears a spring that maintains the attachment both in its effective end inoperative positions, as hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims. Our invention further consists in arranging the leader so as to be retracted a sufficient distance and locked to the sheath when not in use, a spiral spring being fitted within this sheath for the purpose of maintaining the protruded leader in contact with the goods, as hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims....
... "A" represents the cloth-plate, "B" the arm, "C" the needle, "D" the upper thread, "E" the lower thread and "F" the ordinary cord, of a machine such as furnished by the Union Button-Hole Sewing Machine Company, of Boston, Massachusetts. ...

Button-Hole-Feeding Mechanisms for Sewing Machine
My invention relates principally to improvements in mechanisms for feeding to sewing machines button-holes having one end rounded or eyelet-shaped. The general object of my improvements is to provide a very effective, durable and easily adjustable mechanism, which, when properly combined with a sewing machine adapted to make the common lock-stitch, chain-stitch, or other suitable stitch from a continuous thread or continuous threads, shall be capable of holding and automatically feeding to the stitch forming devices of the sewing machine fabrics having button-holes of various sizes with one end rounded or eyelet-shaped, so as to thereby cause the rapid and thorough binding of the edges of such button-holes all around by a series of over edge-stitches, which radiate along the semicircular end and are substantially parallel along the sides of each button-hole and which, by adjustments in said mechanism, can be made of different uniform lengths and at various uniform distances apart and to firmly bar the narrow end of the button-hole.

Glove-Sewing Machine
This invention has reference to certain im provements in overseam sewing machines for gloves, furs and other articles, in which the well-known elements of glove sewing machines, to wit, two parallel feed-disks, a reciprocating needle and an oscillating looper are employed, the improvements being de signed with a view to simplify the construction of the actuating mechanisms, reduce them to a smaller compass, render them more durable and less liable to get out of order while in use and admit the easy and convenient regulation of the stitches. The invention consists, principally, in the combination of a pair of rotary feed-disks, a horizontal reciprocatory needle, the eye of which is arranged horizontally and an oscillating looper, which has a horizontal and an up-and down movement in front of the needle or on that side thereof from which the goods are fed, as contradistinguished from those oscillating loopers which have a lateral movement across the path of the needle or at an angle thereto. The invention consists, further, in a peculiarly-constructed looper, in a peculiarly-constructed needle-guide, in a peculiarly-constructed casting-off device and in certain combinations embracing one or more of these parts, as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
